We got our new custom titanium handlebar into production today. We originally designed it for our commuter bike line but we already have interest for mountain bike and tandem applications, too.
It's, by far, the most customizable handlebar available. We customize it in 5 different ways:
- Overall width
- Rise or drop
- Grip angle
- Reach, or fore aft hand position
- Stiffness
These elements of customization are very versatile and we can mimic--and maybe improve upon--the hand position of just about any mountain, touring, or commuter bar available. And, of course we can set up a position that doesn't match anything on the market--making precisely optimized for each person.
In fact, we are customizing to such an extent that we've developed a new method for measuring bars in three dimensions. I think we've come up with a simple, precise, and comprehensive way to catalog existing bars for comparison, and to clarify in what ways a custom Tiberius bar will fit differently. We've already begun augmenting our bar database and are going into phase two--making it much more three dimensional than previous--and easier for customers and retailers to use.
Next week we're going to post full details on our website, along with an order form that allows customers to specify all five customizable dimensions. If you want to order one before next week, let us know.
I'm working on a Tiberius bar for my commuter. I'll post once it's ready.
What's In a Name?
Why, you might ask, is the bar named Tiberius? Well, two reasons. One is because the bar is titanium--Ti-berius. The other reason? You figure it out, post a comment, and the first person--not working at Seven--with the right answer gets a bar at 25% off.
You named it after Tiberius Caesar Augustus. The second emperor of the Roman world.

Thanks for posting. Good guess but unfortunately not correct. Hint: the shape of the bar is related to the person's name.

Okay, now you've got me stumped. I know I'm really going out on a limb here, but it's kind of shaped like a football goal post. Did you name it after Paul "Bear" Bryant? I don't know, maybe you're a football fan.

Wait, I've got it! It's shaped like the Star Trek Enterprise, and you named it after James Tiberius Kirk!
