I believe this brand doesn't exist anymore, thankfully; otherwise I wouldn’t be posting about it. This may be the funniest writing I've ever read in a bike magazine.
This is from a 1995 bike magazine; it’s an editorial written by Mike Ferrentino*, referencing a rather unfortunate advertisement from a previous issue. My favorite sentence in the piece:
“I don't want to be the one to break the news to the focus group here, but this one really hit the bowl with a splash.”
I’m surprised he was able to get away with saying that about an advertiser. He’s still a major force in cycling journalism so I guess people agreed with him. I certainly did.
Ferrentino’s written a lot of funny writing over the years. There’s something about this particular piece that has made me laugh many times over the years. Tim D.--Seven Cycles' senior welder--and I still joke about it to this day. In fact, I think he's the one that originally showed me the editorial 13-years ago. I had to tear it out and save it; I even had it hanging on my office wall for a few years.
Anyone else have any Ferrentino favorites?
* I hear Mike hates Wikipedia so I felt obligated to use that as a link for his name.
I remember that ad! I found it so funny I used to have a clipping of it in my cubical! I had completely forgot about it until now. Thanks.
